A beautifully written essay. And such a voluptuous sense of place! There's a town in Mexico, Malinalco. It's got an astonishing Aztec temple, wonderful climate, amazing food (pumpkin flower soup!) and all the bougainvillea your eyes can eat. Mexico in microcosm. That's my place.
Jeffrey thank you so much, truly. And thank you for sharing your place - it always brings me this blistering joy to know of people and their places. It sounds incredible. I’m absolutely off to Google it right now.
I feel this so deeply. How you can get to a place and instantly know if the vibes are there or off. If it’s a summer fling or a forever deep longing to go back ❤️
It really is like that. It’s as if there’s a static almost. Sometimes it even feels as though you’ve been there before. And it’s just such a gorgeous human experience. ✈️
I am obsessed with psychogeography, the genius loci of places. Places have feelings, personalities, every bit as much as people do, and it's about finding the places you vibe with, just like finding people. I have lived all of my 40 years in a place I have never vibed with, and I'm finally making plans to leave for a city I've only spent a fleeting moment in, but found such an immediate connection to, I simply HAVE to explore it more. One of my biggest shames is that I have never left the US, and there are places all over the place I want to experience. This writing has reignited my wanderlust in the best way...thank you, Brooke 💜
Edinburgh, Barcelona for me. I'd also say though that I have a certain lust for the woods of the Cascade forest, which is luckily where I live. A part of me comes alive when I get to go out there, deep under the green, and forget civilization for a while.
This is me and Barcelona. Lord does that place sing to my Scorpio heart
I am very personally invested in your affair with Barcelona. It makes my bone sing.
Going back in 3 days. Same city. Hotel and company. The encore is going to be SCATHING.
OH MY GOD DO NOT I AM SO INVESTED
I shall report back!
Please do! The Barcelona diaries. I’ll be here leaning into it all with suspense
Whenever you tell me of this my mind just starts creating a story in my head and I love it.
